The Carlson School is indeed a global community. In January, Todd Gordon, director of Alumni Relations, had the pleasure of traveling to Guangzhou, China to meet with colleagues and students from the China Executive and Vienna Executive MBA Programs, and current Part-Time MBA students from the Carlson School; all of whom were taking part in different residency programs at Lingnan (University) College, Sun yat-sen University.
Meeting with administrative colleagues of the China Executive program was a great opportunity to learn about the culture and to engage them in thinking about alumni relations, says Gordon. “My goal was to share with them my philosophy of alumni relations and to help them discover new ways to engage their growing alumni populations,” he says. “I was thrilled to learn that there is a vibrant and diverse set of events each year for alumni in not only the Guangzhou area, but around China.”
The highlight of the week-long trip was an alumni and current student event, co-hosted by the Carlson School and the Executive MBA Program. More than 120 people attended, including the deans of Lingnan (University) College and the WU Executive Academy of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, as well as business professionals from the Guangzhou area. Guests at the event were treated to short performances by the China and Vienna Executive Programs, and the current Carlson School Part-Time MBA students. “I was impressed to see how much talent we have, both in the boardroom and in the spotlight,” Gordon says.
